Did not last even a year!
I am SO disappointed in this TV. I own a LG television which I have had for about 10 years now and it still works perfectly and looks great. THIS model was bought in Dec 2013 for my mom, and as of Monday, Oct 20, 2014, it has a huge swath of colorful lines through the center and across the bottom left. My mother is very disappointed that she has to buy another new TV. I really don't think it will be another LG. See photo.

I read a majority of the reviews on here before I bought, I was deciding between this and a Samsung smart tv (32") and I didn't see the value buying the Samsung especially considering my PS3 would be connected to it for all my media activity anyways (Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, Youtube, WWE Network, Crackle etc.). For a "dumb" TV it is quite simply powerful and beautiful. Great picture, even out of the box. I did look online for the preffered picture settings and spent a few mins setting it up to optimum picture quality and am very pleased with this purchase. Dollar for Dollar its the best TV I own or have ever bought. It will get a lot of use in my household for movies, blu-ray, and gaming so it will definetly be put to the test. I also like the remote, very intuiative and compact. Only gripe is the bottom red light that is under the LG logo stays on after the TV is turned off (going from blue or white to red when powered off), not very annoying but would rather have it always off, maybe I can figure out a way to turn it off in the settings. Otherwise great purchase. Have not had any power or issues with the set turning itself off during use but will update if those issues present themselves, as a few customers have made light of that issue, fingers crossed and everything is great so far.

    Picture: 10/10

Sound Quality: 9/10 (havent cranked it up all the way, but its in a small bedroom and the sound is plenty loud and clear even at 15 out of whatever it goes up to, other reviewers knock it for its less than theathre sound, for the price I think its more than adequate I dont expect at IMAX quality at this price point)

Ease of Use: 9/10 (alot of picture settings are self explanatory but for others unless your an image quality enthusiast you have no idea what they mean and you will subsequently toy around till you get the picture you want)

Aesthitics: 8/10 (would rather not have the red indicator light when powered off)

Connectivity: 8/10 (would have prefered an audio out headphone connector to be available, and wish both hdmi ports were together but otherwise great set up)

Remote: 10/10 (it serves it purpose, very good remote)

Value for Price: 10/10 (feels worth every penny, picked it up at a reasonable price $274.99 through amazon prime, and had a very speedy delivery)

Overall: 64/70 = 91% Solid A rating. I may be a little generous at times with the score but I am impressed with the preformance and overall look of this TV.

Bottom line I would definetly reccomend anyone looking for a good 32' to purchase this unit.

I BOUGHT THE LG 42 LN5300 TO USE AS A MONITOR FOR MY COMPUTER.

I SEARCHED REGULAR MONITORS BUT COULD NOT FIND ONE BIG ENOUGH FOR MY NEEDS WITHOUT COSTING A FORTUNE.
SO I WENT LOOKING AT TELEVISIONS AS THAT IS WHAT I WAS USING BEFORE.

I NO LONGER NEEDED 2 TV'S SO I TURNED MY 42" SONY WEGA INTO A MONITOR.
IT WORKED GREAT FOR A LONG TIME BUT STARTED TO LOOSE BRIGHTNESS AND CONTRAST AND I WAS HAVING A HARD TIME SEEING NUMBERS CLEARLY.

I WENT WITH LG BECAUSE OF ITS REPUTATION AND FINDING A 42" IN THIS PRICE RANGE WAS GREAT.
THIS TELEVISION WAS A PERFECT CHOICE. EASY SET UP WITH HDMI HOOKUP.
PUTTING STAND TOGETHER TOOK WAY LONGER THEN IT SHOULD HAVE BUT ONCE YOU REALLY LOOKED AT PICTURES IT WAS EASY BREEZY. NO WOBBLE OR TILTING.

    NOW FOR THE GOOD STUFF:
PICTURE QUALITY IS OUTSTANDING, VIBRANT COLORS, BLACK BLACKS.
NO FLASH LIGHTING OR BANDING, NO BROKEN PIXELS.

    TELEVISION HAS MANY PICTURE OPTIONS,
BECAUSE I AM USING THIS AS A COMPUTER MONITOR I CHOSE THE STANDARD PICTURE MODE.
    I AM RUNNING WINDOWS 7 PRO. RESOLUTION SET AT 1920 X 1080
OTHER OPTIONS THAT WORKED WELL FOR ME WERE, BACK LIGHT 90: CONTRAST 57: BRIGHTNESS 27: SHARPNESS 20: COLOR 60:

REMOTE IS BASIC BUT GOOD FOR MY NEEDS.
IT ONLY BEING 60HZ HAS NOT BEEN AN ISSUE FOR ME IT RUNS VERY SMOOTH.
THE OTHER OPTIONS IT LACKS AS NOT BEING A SMART TV ETC, WERE NOT IMPORTANT TO ME.
I KNEW WHAT I WAS BUYING AND I DIDN'T NEED THEM.

ALTHOUGH I WILL NEVER USE THIS AS A REAL TELEVISION I CANNOT COMMENT ON THOSE ASPECTS BUT THERE ARE MANY MANY REVIEWS TOUTING ITS QUALITY.

I AM THRILLED WITH MY 42' LG. SO WHETHER YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A GREAT MONITOR OR A FANTASTIC TELEVISION, YOU CANT GO WRONG WITH THIS MODEL AND PRICE.
