Ruined or Damaged Every Device They Were Used In.....
I've been using and recommending Duracell batteries for 40+ years but no more. Either I received fakes from Amazon or Duracell has some serious issues right now. Up until recently I had never had a device damaged by a Duracell even when left unused for several years. They have certainly made up for lost time now as every single electronic device these have been used in over the last two years has been seriously damaged or completely destroyed by leaking cells. This includes the AAA's bought here as well as AA's purchased here and locally. At least one cell in every device has leaked from the end caps with most leaking around the base. Some of the devices damaged are irreplaceable and several remotes cost as much as the entire device they control. Right now Duracell's are in the 'junk battery' category for me and I don't know if I will ever trust them again. On the upside, the Chinese made Maxell's (48 ct. AA's) I bought a year or two ago haven't leaked yet and I'm nearly finished with a 48 count box. Update: Added a pic of an unopened pack leaking with a 2022 date code.
Amazon.com is the #1 retailer in the world for a reason... Awesome customer satisfaction, excellent business plan, great products, amazing prices, etc... As we all know, Amazon has expanded their business to allow 3rd parties to sell their products on Amazon's website for some time now. With this expansion, they allow 3rd party businesses to either 1) use Amazon as a storefront but the seller keeps/ships their own stock or 2) they use Amazon as a storefront AND Amazon holds the business' product in an AMAZON warehouse.
As a consumer, you have to be cautious when businesses that want to sell on Amazon opt to use option #1 simply because of the fact that how they obtain their product can vary. This especially matters when you deal with products that have expiration dates. Ever been to a flea market? For those of you that have, many of you know that various merchants at flea markets can obtain their stock through closeouts, business closings, clearance, etc. And much of that stock, especially when dealing with consumables, have expiration dates that are either upcoming or already expired. In the case of batteries, we all know they have expiration dates and it's a glaring concern that when you buy things like batteries, you have to be concerned about how fresh they are and if they aren't, how much longer they will last. There are many reviews on Amazon of people complaining about "bad batteries" but because multiple sellers (including Amazon) can sell the same battery the reviews are all clumped under the same product.
Being an Amazon Prime member, I always try & find a product that is eligible for Prime shipping. Sometimes Prime items don't always have the best price, but it guarantees you a fast shipping date and a fulfillment by Amazon that we Amazon customers all love. But a smart consumer will also follow the rule that without sufficient evidence, if a price is too good to be true, then it likely is.
In the case of these batteries, I ended up paying $15.39 for a 34-count, making the batteries 45 cents each. Other 3rd party seller's prices can be similar but I gained a peace of mind of no flea market stock, excellent returns policy, and the opportunity to take advantage of Prime shipping by buying from Amazon as a seller.
Most Duracell retail battery packaging now states that it's "Guaranteed Fresh" for 7 years. Some Duracell packaging even has a production stamp of when it was manufactured. If it's not, a good way to calculate of when the battery was made was take the year date that's on the battery itself and subtract 7 years. That's what year your battery was made. Obviously the closer the date is to the year expiration date on the battery, the less "fresh" it is. But in my case, these batteries were made a few months ago. Testing a couple of these puppies in my battery tester as well as the built in charge tester on the Duracell Ultra Power batteries at home shows that they have a nice full charge!
They're batteries, not much you can say about them. These had full charges when I got them, and I got them on a gold box deal so the price was outstanding. They last as long as you expect these to last.
I have a lot of rechargeable batteries, but sometimes I want something I can just pop in when I don't have any charged ones around, and these do the trick.
Find them on special, and it's a deal you can't pass up even if you have a lot of rechargeable batteries laying around.
These Duracell 'Duralock" batteries were a good buy in bulk. I give them away to friends and family as a kindness. Since they have such a long shelf life I'm not concerned they'll be wasted. When all my alkalines are gone I'll be switching to good rechargeables. Tests show that there are other competitors who are about as good. I've been using Duracell for decades and have never had a problem so I stick with them. For me only great rechargables get five stars.
Glad I came across this deal. Having batteries around my house is always an issue. So glad I saw this and got to order them. I also ordered the AA size. For a great price I'm stocked with batteries. Don't have to worry if the power goes out and I need batteries for the flash light. I also use them for my flameless candles. One of the best deals I've come across.
This is very frustrating. I received this package of batteries today. They were not packaged anything like the photos shown. I've added photos for you to see how they arrived. Then I read some of the complaints here. Then I spent a couple of hours looking for information online about fake DURACELL batteries. Turns out there are quite a few fakes out there. I compared the battery to another AAA battery I had that came from an authentic DURACELL package purchased a local store. The differences I noticed on the batteries from this package are: 1 - there is a line printed on the side that reads : ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT ACCESSORY. 2 - Other than the word DURACELL, al the type is in a different size. 3 - there is a date printed around the top (copper top + area) that reads: 2012/09 (see photo). 4 - the word DURACELL only appears on one side on the battery whereas the word is printed on both sides on the one I purchased locally. Also, on the Duracell website they say that they only sell their batteries to authorized resellers and only in Duracell packaging. I am definitely retuning these to Amazon. It's too bad we have to watch out for this type of thing. Hope this account and the photos help.
The expiration date on a couple of these batteries was just about reached upon receipt of the delivery. This was not what I'd expected but maybe some slip up. When i went back and checked, the remainder of the exp dates were Mar 2019; so still a pretty solid deal.
I can only rate what I received. The batteries I was sent (sold by Utrusted, fulfilled by Amazon) do not have the "Duralock" band around them (see pictures). These only have a 6.5 year shelf life, not Duralock's 10. This has happened to many others, see the reviews.
I'm returning these and placed an order with Amazon as the actual vendor. I'll update after I receive the order.
Update: The new order for AA batteries actually sold by Amazon and not merely fulfilled by them arrived today. They are the correct batteries with the correct markings in the proper packaging. My batch expires in 2022.
I am updating my review as follows:
5 stars if Amazon is the actual merchant. 1 star if Amazon is shipping Utrusted's (got to love the irony) stock.
