- Reviewed in the United States on March 13, 2013Color: Red/blackVerified Purchase**This review based on Firmware Version 61 and after almost a year of heavy computing and PC gaming usage**
Hi, I'm Ryan, and I have a PC Mouse addiction.
Seriously! My first mouse ever was the original Microsoft Mouse 1.0 (no scroll wheel) that came with my Gateway 2000 computer sometime in the early 90's. Since then, I've use and tried hundreds and hundreds of mice. Yes, I am serious ... Hundreds. This includes every Logitech gaming mouse made, things like the original Kensington 8-Ball and Logitech FX Trackballs, the original Razer Boomslang and nearly every single Razer mouse after that, as well as nearly all off brands from Genius years ago through OCZ-Cooler Master-Cyborg-etc-etc today.
I even have a showcase shelf with my favorites through the years:
Original Microsoft Mouse serial-port connector
Kensington Expert Mouse Trackball
Logitech FX Trackball (Original)
Logitech Wingman Mouse (My most favorite mouse ever ... would pay a couple hundred of dollars to have someone Mod this to optical and add a scroll wheel)
Razer Boomslang (Love-Hate relationship here)
Logitech's Dual Optical MouseMan
Razer Krait (Original) Razer Naga (During my WoW days)
Razer Naga (Original)
OK, enough trip down memory lane. First, it is important to know that I use a hybrid Claw and Fingertip grip; NOT the more common palm grip most people use. Although I've used mice of all sizes and shapes, I find the most comfortable and usable ones being designed for Claw and/or Fingertip grips. Because of this, falling "in-love" with a mouse has been difficult; always presented with a huge selection of gaming, updated tech palm-grip mice and a small assortment of more basic, non-gaming, not-tech focused claw/fingertip mice.
Until recently, the Wingman Mouse was truly my only "Love". I resisted and resisted many years from upgrading this mouse; convincing myself that I didn't need a scroll wheel anyways and, later, that optical sensors were a fad. Alas, the time finally came when I realized I needed to move past the Wingman Mouse and on to something new. Since that time, I've found a few mice that I truly enjoyed and was happy to use; especially the Razer Naga during my World of Warcraft days. Sadly, there has been no more "True Love" (que Princess Bride clip ...)
Until Now
Yes, the CM Storm Spawn is, honestly, True Love for me and, likely, for many of you with Claw and/or Fingertip grips. The design is near perfection giving both the ring and pinky fingers placement AND grip to move the mouse. I can hold and move the Spawn using my thumb and ring finger or my thumb and pinky. But, why would I want to do that when the design so perfectly allows me to use my thumb and both ring and pinky for moving, lifting, and gripping? Combine that amazing grip with the Spawn's lightweight, slightly textured red coating, and durable, ideally placed on left and right rubber sides, and you have a design which equals True Love for me!
In performance, the mouse holds up and works amazing even without state-of-the-art sensors; which are of less importance in claw/fingertip grips as mouse movement covers far less space than palm grip's sweeping forearm movement. The top buttons have excellent travel distance, an audible but not annoyingly loud "click" when pushed, and, durable as after almost a year's worth of heavy computer and PC gaming usage the buttons perform as crisply as the day I got it. The two side buttons are also perfectly positioned above the thumb for easy access at any time (why do Mouse vendors so often get this placement wrong?). And, although the two side buttons are not as "crisp" to click as the top buttons, they are still near-perfect.
The Spawn has been partnered with a Razer Scarab mousepad and the tracking, precision, acceleration, and overall feel of cursor movement is as awesome as any mouse I've used. It also has not, for me, suffered any (not a one) tracking problems; cursor ghosting, erratic cursor jumping, nor direction specific tracking issues. It performs ideally and naturally whether I am working PowerPoint and Email on dual monitors or I am gaming (MMO to MOBA to FPS to Strategy to whatever). The mouse wheel, although nothing super-special, does feels good, scrolls nicely, and most importantly doesn't wiggle left-right.
The one area of "le sigh", and the sole "bad spot" of the Spawn, is the driver and driver support. The good news is that this mouse, unlike it's younger brother the Xornet, has on-board memory and once configured does not need the Spawn software loaded or running; even for Macro usage. However. the Macro capability is limited compared to other mice macro capabilities, like Logitech and Razer, but it does allow for basic keyboard recording. It does not allow for Macros to use mouse buttons or timed pauses, though. I've worked around this by using my Razer Blackwidow keyboard to record the more sophisticated macros, mapped them to an unused keyboard key within the intended game, and then mapped that macro keyboard key to a Spawn mouse button. Voila! Works perfectly!
Unfortunately, the res of the Spawn software continues to be limited in comparison to what is considered "good" game mice software today. First, since the day it launched, the Spawn software has a "glitch" with Google Chrome. If you want to "save" any changes in the Spawn control panel to the mouse, you must close all Chrome windows first. If you don't both the Spawn software and Chrome browsers will hang. Also, although the mouse does have three levels of DPI, they are not user adjustable but set at 3500, 1800, and 800 dpi. Lastly, the Spawn software does not have the capability to have multiple configuration profiles.
All these should have been fixed and updated, but alas CM has chosen to do very little updating of this mouse. For me, it is a small inconvenience as I can easily work around all the limitations via leveraging my Razer keyboards software. Your mileage may visit, though.
So, just like the people we Love, the Spawn has it weird quirks (software) but, in the end, it is definitely True Love. So much so that I simply couldn't bear the loss of her if she ever **sniff* died on me **sniff*. Therefore, I did what was necessary with my Spawn and cloned her! Yep, I purchased a second CM Storm spawn. It proudly sits as the newest member of my Mouse Shelf of Fame next to my Wingman; the Spawn remaining new, unopened and waiting for the day she is needed ...
... and, yes, I am actually considering getting a Third CM Storm Spawn "in case of an Apocalyptic mouse event"!

- Reviewed in the United States on February 4, 2013To start off, I will say that I have large hands. Probably somewhere around large-xl glove size to give you a rough estimate.
I use a sort of relaxed claw grip(Maybe even fingertip?) which is what this mouse is aimed at.
Likes: The grip is superb and very comfortable.
-A nice amount of width to it, other mouses feel terribly tiny in my giant hands now.
-DPI switch on top; I find it's best left at the max, although in certain games(Orcs must die!) it can be helpful for the MASSIVE amount of sensitivity that game has.
-Style- This mouse is surprisingly stylish, the trim around the buttons is a nice gloss, the sides are a black rubber material, and the top has a nice matte(?) finish to it and looks classy.
-Glides very smooth across my cheap freebie mouse-pad.
-Price; for a budget minded gamer who doesn't care about fancy LEDs or massive buttons on the side, this is a good mouse.
-Two buttons on the side; Sure, I don't care or need buttons on the side, but these are a nice addition at this price point. The main use it to go back and forth between web-pages. However, in some games it can be used to map things to them.
-Rubberised sides; These provide a nice grip and it seems to not be as prone to wear down compared to other mice I've had; I'll try to update this in the future to give better feedback on it(I've only owned for about 3 weeks now).
Dislikes:
-Scroll wheel; I only have a minor dislike with this, the scroll wheel functions nearly perfect. It scrolls up and down with a little click, giving some feedback. My minor complaint is that the 'up scroll' click is noticeably louder.
-The mouse buttons seem to get fingerprint wear down, this is only noticeable in certain light though.
Other thoughts:
The ring finger rest is a pro or con. I personally like it with the claw grip. I don't lay my ring finger flat across it, because that is uncomfortable; instead, I use a 'claw' for the ring finger too. On my old mouse Microsoft Wireless mouse 3000), my pinky would be left to drag across the mousepad, with this though, I can grip the side with the pinky and let the ring finger rest.
-No LEDs; pro or con depending on what you like, I think LEDs are distracting so +1 for me.
-If you're interested in dimensions (Comes from manufacturer website):
(L) 107 X (W) 75 X (H) 35 mm / (L) 4.2 X (W) 4 X (H) 1.3 inch
-I got this over the Razer Abyssus due to two reasons; One, the Abyssus had a glossy coat on the side(AKA Fingerprint and scratch magnets) and two, this one has no bright LED. Plus, the Abyssus has recently spiked in price(At the time of this writing) compared to this mouse. If you're deciding between these mice, my vote goes for Storm Xornet(Even with the lower DPI rate).
- Reviewed in the United States on July 22, 2013Color: Red/blackVerified PurchaseI've used this mouse for a few days, after my Logitech mx518 finally started dying on me. It looks really nice, and performs well, but over the past few days, I just couldn't get my hand to adjust to the radically different shape this mouse sports (compared to the mx518). The groove on the right side where your ring finger should rest takes some time to get used to, but even then it still felt weird for me to have it there. Normally, I have both it and my pinky finger together off to the side where they hold onto the mouse and help me lift it off the surface. Here, it just rests and the pinky does all the work.
The rubberized coating is very nice, and it covers almost the entire surface of the mouse, except for the thin part that separates the buttons from the body of the mouse. The sensor is very responsive, and it comes with three preset sensitivities that you can choose through with the two buttons behind the scroll wheel (800, 1800, and 3500 dpi). These are not adjustable however. I personally found that the middle setting was just a bit too fast for what I was used to, and that I couldn't fine tune it from there was really a shame. Also, this mouse doesn't have a braided cable, but for the price i sort of half expected it. It still would have been nice though.
I would say to try and get a feel for the mouse yourself before buying it outright. What works for some may not work for others, especially for a gaming mouse. Everyone's got their little preferences so make sure to do a bit of research beforehand.
Pros:
Inexpensive
Precise sensor
Solid buttons
Nice rubber coating
Cons:
Shape (unless you find this style comfortable)
Nonadjustable dpi presets (800, 1800, 3500)
No braided cable

5.0 out of 5 stars Good quality mouse!
This mouse has a very comfortable and ergonomic design. It fits perfectly in the palm of my hand with a space specifically to rest my third finger and my thumb. It is easy to use and uses a USB. "Xornet" is printed down the side where my third finger would rest, along with CM STORM and the loco printed on the back of the mouse. This has not been worn off in the time I have used this, and I use it for many hours daily (game addict!)
The main part of the mouse is a shiny black, with the left and right mouse buttons being matte black to avoid any slipping of the fingers. In between the LMB and RMB there is a scroller which is nicely textured and slightly rubbery and then 2 arrowed buttons which can be binded to whatever function you wish. On both sides of the mouse there is a rubbery textured area which allows the user to gain grip on the mouse. The left side of the mouse contains two buttons MB4/5 I believe. These can also be binded and I use MB5 as a push-to-talk on Team-speak and a toggle mute on Skype. The wire is long which is also a benefit.
This is a great gaming mouse, and for the price you cannot really go wrong. I would purchase this again and I would recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Top!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Worthy successor to g9
I recommend people seeking a replacement for, now out-of-production, g9 and g9x to try out the CM Storm Xornet. It feels wide, small and comfortable. One thing to note is that it does not have the weight adjustment --- so it is light, equivalent to g9 with all the weights taken out. However, I tried multiple mice, g500s, naga, r.a.t. 3 and r.a.t. 7 and none of them approach the comfort or form factor of g9. While this cheap mouse beats all those expensive ones and feels much better for claw/fingertip grips. Recommend picking it up as a replacement mouse at least.
I am not sure of the durability, as I've just received it, but if it breaks I'll update this.

4.0 out of 5 stars 持ち方次第
Color: Red/blackVerified Purchase
