For coffee at home that tastes as fresh as the neighborhood coffee shop's, try Cuisinart's Automatic Grind & Brew coffeemaker. The Grind & Brew makes it easy to enjoy fresh coffee with the utmost convenience--ground whole-bean coffee pours directly into the filter basket at a preset time for instant brewing. The maker does all the thinking, with a range of programmable features. You can set the machine to grind and brew at exactly the right time, predetermine the coffee's temperature, and program the machine to turn off a half-hour later.

Other features take the guesswork out of making coffee as well: the flavor setting ensures the optimal amount of water is used for a rich, aromatic taste and no acidity or bitterness, and the large easy-view water window makes sure the right amount of water is added. A self-cleaning feature lets you know when calcium buildup is interfering with the machine's operation; turn on the self-cleaning cycle to make quick work of grime. Daily cleaning of the machine is somewhat involved because all individual parts must be removed, so prepare for slightly longer cleanup in exchange for a savings of time upfront.

Two additional caveats: The grinder is noisy, as most grinders are, and cannot be turned off midgrind. And it's taller than average coffee machines, so make sure you have a spot for it with plenty of below cupboard space. --Emily Wolf

Editor's note: This is a reconditioned small appliance. Reconditioned generally means that the appliance has been returned to the manufacturer, so it may contain cosmetic blemishes. This item has a 90-day warranty.

Bought this as a replacement coffee maker for my husband when his Melitta coffee machine broke, some little plastic piece broke off and the lid would not shut so the beans would not grind - saw this one for sale for $40 so I bought two of them and I have been very impressed; it grinds the beans and makes coffee just as good if not better than the Melitta and for the money how can you go wrong. We have used this machine for over a year now and not had any problems. It is very easy to clean and even tells you when it needs to be cleaned. The controls and settings are wonderful - everything from how rich you want your coffee to how long you want it to stay warm. The only thing my husband did say is that he wishes it came with a carafe instead of a glass coffee pot.

This item worked twice. The third time the sensor kept beeping indicating that the lid was open. It was clicked shut. The sensors were touching. There was no reason for it to do this. So of course it would not grind or brew coffee. Had to unplug it several times, reset the clock, reprogrammed it, no amount of work would get it to perform as the book said it should. Aside from that it was easy to use and clean but it is not attractive enough to just be a kitchen knick knack.

I ordered this cuisinart coffeemaker thinking it would be as good as new. When I opened the all-white box, I found a coffeemaker that still had dirt on it. I had to clean the whole thing before I could use it. I think smokers must have owned it. I can smell it. I didn't get the brush or scoop, either. I am seriously debating on whether to retun the thing!

We got this Reconditioned previous model due to the large number of negative comments about the current model. This model brews well and electronics work well and are fairly easy to set and use.

As with all the other grind and brew machines it requires you to throughly wash the grinder, cap and transfer channel after each use. So far that is the only real negative. We got it at such a good price that we can over look the washing.

I could not find any design that did not have negatives, even on grind and brew's at almost 10X the cost of this one.

Ok, ok, I've read the reviews. I bought this model new at my discount warehouse 4 years ago. This workhorse gets used a couple times a day, sometimes with whole beans and sometimes using the grinder off function. It takes around 8 minutes to brew a full pot of coffee that tastes great. My guests always comment on how good the coffee is.

Problems: NONE!... although it is becoming difficult to take apart and the grinder is starting to make some unusual noises.

Nothing has broken! Ever! This thing just keeps working and working. I even hosed it down, inside and out, in the backyard. After the condensation in the readout disappeared (here in Arizona that didn't take long) it worked like new! I was kinda wishing that it would self-destruct so that I could replace it with something more modern. But then I ran the self-cleaning cycle a couple times, and, you know the rest.

So why did I order this referb version? Because my current one is getting a little tired and I couldn't resist the price.

The unit takes slightly longer to clean than a normal coffee maker but the extra effort is worth it since the coffee is ground fresh prior to brewing. However, the grinding process is noisy and can be used as an "alarm clock" in the morning if your bedroom is near the kitchen. One much appreciated feature is an interlock that prevents grinding and coffee making if all of the parts are not placed in the machine properly. The temperature of the brewed coffee is adjustable as well as the time the hotplate stays on after brewing (a great feature). All in all, a sophisticated machine which will probably increase your coffee constumption!

This is the second Cuisinart Grind & Brew that I have bought. The second one was a replacement for the first one, which had a broken lid catch and a broken flow-stopper. However, it was still useable until I broke the carafe. But I had the machine for a couple of years before things started breaking. I love this machine, and the fact that I can set it up the night before, and wake up to a great pot of coffee made with freshly-ground beans. I have had a couple of different makes of Grind & Brew coffeemakers, and they were harder to use and clean.

Unlike some others, I don't think that cleaning it is too bad. You do need to thoroughly wash the inside parts, and let them dry before setting it up for another pot. If you don't dry the parts well, that is when you have trouble with clogging and overflowing. I have never had any problems like that with mine. I would readily buy this coffeemaker again!

Didn't last long at all. I bought a Bunn I've used for years to replace it.
