Quiet and built of durable plastic, this device circulates air throughout a room at home, at the office, or in a college dorm. Use it alone or with an air conditioner to cool down in the summer and to circulate heat evenly throughout a room in winter. Its 72-watt motor combines with a deep-pitch propeller and a cunning grill design to move air in a tight beam. The head pivots from horizontal to straight up. It has a three-speed control, stands 12 inches high, has a 9-1/2-inch-diameter head, and weighs 5 pounds. --Fred Brack

- Reviewed in the United States on March 2, 2006This tabletop fan is a telling reason why Vornado has been around for a long time. Great air output, high quality, well-built, very quiet on low speed, adjustable so you can tilt it at any angle you want, and just small enough to fit on your desk, table, or in our case, the bathroom counter. My wife uses this fan to cool off in the bathroom while getting ready in the morning, and it really does the job. It has a very focused air flow so she can aim it on herself without bothering me. It's very smooth running, so there's no danger of it vibrating off the counter. It costs a bit more than the typical portable fan, but then there's nothing more frustrating than having a fan that won't cool you off. No worries with this one! The extra money is well spent here. This fan lives up to the saying, "You get what you pay for"!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 29, 2006I bought 2 of these fans 2 years ago. In the last week they both failed. The warranlty is use less. It costs you $12.00 to ship back and they want $ 15.oo to return it. Costs more then a new fan. What a dissapointment. Vornado sure went downhill. R.Schaeffer
- Reviewed in the United States on October 26, 2008I wanted the older version with the variable speed control, not the three-speed version. While the 3-speed is quieter than most fans on low, it still makes a fair amount of noise. When I turn my older variable speed version to the lowest setting, I can still get a cool breeze and barely hear it at all, which is perfect for sleeping under on a warm night. The picture on the Amazon site showed the wrong (old) version. I can't imagine why Vornado quit making the continuous adjsutment version, but they did. I've been trying to find one unsuccesfully for a couple of months now, and thought I had hit paydirt based on the picture displayed on Amazon.
To be clear, the fan did work as it should have, and Home & Beyond took it right back when I returned it, it just wasn't what as shown on amazon. I'm still out the shipping both ways because of the incorrect picture shown on Amazon.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 6, 2003After reading the reviews of this model and the other Vornados I decided to plunk down the money for the small model since it seemed like it would be adequate for a small studio apartment.
Reading the reviews you'd think this was some kind of small miracle machine. My experience after close to two weeks hasn't been close to miraculous. Even in a small studio apt. I haven't found that it cools down the whole front room, though I do notice a slight temperature change from one side to the other (it's less than ten steps across the whole room). Granted it's a result I would never get with my run of the mill oscillating Duracraft fan, but short of my expectations.
On the low setting, I hardly notice it's even on. The medium is fairly quiet too. These would probably be ideal sleeping settings. On high (the setting I most frequently have used) it's about the same as a regular fan on high speed, maybe a smidge louder.
I've located the fan near the wall AC and I do notice the air circulating a bit better and likewise when the window and curtains are open, but again I haven't found it be any sort of miracle worker that significantly cools the room down. Certainly not when the temps outside are in the upper 90's as they were here recently. Maybe I need to continue to play with the positioning of it, though I've tried to follow the suggestions in the pamphlet. If it's the little miracle the other reviews made it out to be, then there shouldn't be much "experimentation" needed for a relatively small, square room. Maybe my apartment is just unusually hot.
At this point, I couldn't imagine using this in the middle of the extremely hot Sacramento summer as an alternative to AC during the peak heat of the day. Even turning it on in the morning during not-so-hot days I have still found the room to get stuffy and warm by the afternoon and needing to turn the AC onfor at least a little while to cool the room down to a more comfortable level. I'm not sure it's even worth the extra cost of electricity to have the fan on at the same as the AC.
Bottom line, I'm still not completely sold on this fan and whether the purchase price was worth it. It could find it's way back to Amazon.Com for a refund since I already own a standard oscillating fan which was probably about fifteen bucks cheaper. Either way, I don't think this product is something I'd necessarily recommend purchasing over a regular fan.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 17, 2008Excellent Fan (Per Vornado, "air circulator")
But not great for other than a small room. I also got a Premium series, 5 setting fan directly from Vornado, as they do not seem to offer this product through regular retailers. Much more positively, both fans are virtually silent on low settings, but the Premium (with a premium price about twice the cost) is clearly superior--if you need to cool a larger area. Either product is definately a cut above the norm. As they say, you get what you pay for. The seeming hype about how a five degree increase in comfort for a device that uses little power yields a comprable level of comfort, surprising, lives up to its claim. Small area? Five stars.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 28, 2004I live in an area where it isn't particularly safe to leave windows open at night. The one window in the bedroom that is probably okay to leave open a little doesn't create any cross-draft, so it is very uncomfortable for sleeping in the summer. I tried several different fans, but none of them helped much because they were too loud or they blew so hard that the wind dried out my nasal passages and my throat.
Then came this little Vornado "air circulator." I set it in front of the window opening and it sucks fresh air into the room and bounces it around so delicately that there is no wind impact. The air just gently moves about, creating a cooling, natural ventilation that prevents sweating and doesn't dry out nose or throat. And it does this almost completely silently. You have to turn it up to maximum to hear it and even then it is not nearly so loud as most fans at low speed. Since I have been using this wonderful Vornado, I have slept better than I have in months and awaken without the icky, achy feeling that is usually left over from having a fan going all night.
This product gets my highest, unequivocal recommendation.
